What is the Disability Squeeze Symposium?

A free research and policy event on the extra costs disabled people face in the U.S.—what we call the disability squeeze. We’ll share new findings, hear from national experts and disabled leaders, and discuss policy solutions to reduce financial barriers.

Who should attend?

Anyone working to address disability-related inequities. We welcome participants from all sectors and with all types of lived experience.

Is the event in person or online?

Both. The symposium will take place at New York Law School in Manhattan (lunch provided) and will also be streamed live via Zoom. Registered participants will receive the Zoom link before the event.

Who is organizing the symposium?

Researchers from the School of Social Welfare at Stony Brook University, in partnership with New York Law School. The event is part of a larger research initiative funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) on out-of-pocket costs and unmet needs experienced by disabled people in the U.S.

What accessibility accommodations will be provided?

ASL interpretation and CART (real-time captioning) will be provided for all sessions, both in person and on Zoom. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible. The registration form will include space for additional accommodation request. The presentation will be recorded and available for later viewing.
